Did you know? Japan is the world’s largest importer for Saba!
Introduction
Saba is a famous food and a stable dish for all of Japan! I use to always eat this when I was in Japan and my mother always cook it as it was very affordable. Japanese Saba has a mild sweetness to it, and is very delicious. Today I will be talking about a store in Osaka, called Saber! It was originally a crowd funded project to make a speciality shop for only Saba. If you visit the restaurant, you will realize that the number “38” is everywhere since 38 sounds like Saba in Japanese. So the owner decided to make some fun out of it and made the lunchtime run from 1138 to 1438! In this shop, you will only find top quality mackerel from the North Pacific Ocean and mainly serve grilled Saba. They are especially known for grilled Saba sushi and you should definitely give it a try!
Popularity in Japan
"Toro Sabu" the selected elite with texture melting in your mouth, deep taste."Toro saba" to the world. With that motto, SABAR was born in 2014. Its popularity has rapidly spread to Osaka and other areas, to Tokyo, Kyoto and Kobe, and now to Singapore.
My Experience
For my friends in Singapore, you are lucky enough to be able to try this amazing dish in Singapore. There is a outlet at Wisma Atria, and my experience there brought me back to the time I had in Japan! The fish was amazingly sweet and did not have any fishy taste like how you would find in most mackerel. I also had the teriyaki Squid which was an amazing dish of its own and brought me back to those that I find in festivals back in Japan!
