Kyushu (Kagoshima)

Kagoshima is located at the southern tip of Japan, and included in Kyusyu area. It is best known for its unique nature, onsen (hot spring) and fantastic foods!

  1. From Tokyo: Flight of around 2 hours

  2. From Fukuoka: By train (Bullet Train) of around 1.5 hours

1. Shiroyama Lookout

It is a park set above the city where you can view the whole Kagoshima city and Sakurajima. 

 

2.Senganen Garden

It is a separate residence built by Mitsuhisa Shimazu in the 19th generation of Shimizuhara (1658). The garden and the traditional housing are really famous as being influenced by  Chinese culture as well as its own Japanese culture. In addition, as it is located in the temperate and subtropical boundary, many rare plants are planted.

 

 

3. Yakushima

It is the island famous for its unique ecosystem and a unique tree called “Yakusugi” (Cryptomeria japonica). It was Designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1993. The ancient cedar trees that are said to have been the models of some of the scenes in Ghiburi animation “Princess Mononoke”. Nature and its ecosystem are well reserved where you can enjoy hiking.

4. Ibusuki Onsen

It is a group of hot springs situated about an hour by train from Kagoshima city It is popular for its hot sand baths.
