The remote village of Shimokuri in Nagano Prefecture is waiting for you with picturesque scene!

WHAT is it?

It is the remote village of Shimoguri called "Machu Picchu of Japan"or "Tyrol of Japan" as it is a secluded valley, enclosed on all sides by mountains with the altitude of 1000m. It is located at the southern tip of Nagano Prefecture. They have developed unique farming methods to deal with the steep mountain slopes, and still people living there preserve traditional life style in nature.


WHY it became famous?

In 2014, it was chosen as "Nihon no Sato 100 Selections", and as the increase in media exposure, it has gradually become famous. Also, in June 2014, the Minami Alps were registered as a UNESCO "Eco-park" (or UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) and Toyama-go where Shimoguri-no-Sato is located is designated as "transition area."

HOW to get there?

【By bus and taxi】bus and taxi ride from Iida Station (JR Iida Line) Take a bus for Toyamago, get off at Kamimachi, then go to Shimoguri-no-sato by taxi (reservation is recommended)

【By car】80 min from Iida IC
