Monet's Pond in Gifu Prefecture is waiting for you with picturesque scene!

WHAT is it?

A small pond located deep in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture. With colourful lilies, turquoise water and a wealth of gold and orange carp, wonderful scene is waiting for you.

WHY is it famous?

Nicknamed “Monet’s Pond,” That looks like Monet’s pond. This spontaneous masterpiece was just an ordinary pond next to Nemichi Shrine until its exposure to social media in 2015.

The water lilies floating in the glass-like water create a picturesque scene that reminds you of many of the works in Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” series. Throw in the colorful Japanese carp that swim in the pond you can easily find why it is sometimes referred to as “Monet’s Japanese Pond.”

WHEN to go?

From May to September water is the best season to go because water is more transparent due to the increase in the amount of spring water

  • April: Cherry Blossoms on the way to the pond

  • May to October (Especially June to July): with water lily

  • The end of June to July: with hydrangea

  • November: with red leaves of autumn

  • December to February: with snow
